Actor Will Smith said that the election of Barack Obama has confirmed his belief that America is really not a racist country. Except for Hollywood. He hadn't wanted to say this, like before, so um, he like, waited. Here's his quote from Britian's Daily Mail which also includes his thoughts on Hollywood's reticience to allow to film love scenes with white women:
"It was as if some part of me was validated. It was something that I've known for a long time that I couldn't really say: 'You know guys, I really don't think America is a racist nation.' I know that I feel like that sometimes but I just don't believe that. There are racist people who live there but I don't think America as a whole is a racist nation. Before Obama won the presidency I wasn't allowed to say that out loud because people would say: 'Oh yeah, of course for you, Mr Hollywood!"
And as for the love scenes, is Hollyhood still nervous about interracial love?
"Definitely nervous. You spend millions on a movie and the studio wants to do everything they can to protect their investment. The idea of a black guy kissing a white girl on screen becomes huge news in the States. Outside the country it's no big deal but in the US it's still a big racial issue."
I'm sorry Will, but perhaps you got it backwards. The problem I have with your statements is that they sound las if they're coming from a person who lives in a bubble and is really out of touch with society. Especially with your own roots. As far as I know, interracial love scenes are not as big a deal for audiences nowadays. Perhaps it is for Hollywood, like you say. And although America is not a totally racist place, we still have some major issues going on in terms of race, Obama aside. Please read the papers. Think about what's happened in Long Island and Brooklyn NY with teens killing Mexican immigrants. Think about what happened in Oakland, California:

I'll take into consideration that having a lot of money can tend to falsely buffer the sting of everyday realities. But please take into consideration the reality of those who do not have the luxury of affording high priced lawyers to defend themselves, black and white, and stay out of jail, like Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff. And although America
Being a rich black man, God forbid you should find yourself on wrong end of the justice system, but then again, I'm t sure that you, like OJ Simpson, who's the best example of the irony of having money and ultimately getting fingered by The Fickle Finger Of Justice, by the way, and perhaps even R Kelly, will be able to literally buy enough time to avert the inevitable while most black folks have neither the luxury nor the resources to do so.
Please do keep that in mind. Thank You.
