First Good News This Year: Keisha Chante To Play Aaliyah In Biopic

Canadian R&B singer Keisha Chante has reportedly been tapped to play beloved soul angel Aaliyah in a film based on her life.

I must admit, I hadn't heard of Ms. Chante before today, but she certainly does seem to have the look down pat. Plus, it seems she already has some acting chops, having already acted in a few small flicks including

The Cat's Cradle, which was released in 2008.

The young beauty, who is of Trinidadian/Portugese/Puerto Rican descent, has also won a Juno Award (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy) in addition to being signed to Ford Models International. Her past hits include, "Does He Love Me?" ft. Foxy Brown which Chanté & Brown co-wrote and "Young Gav", which was produced by Brown's brother.

Here's a clip of Keisha performing the title cut fro her 2006 album, 2U. I chose this one because it seems that her performance is almost identical to Aaliyah than in other clips I've seen on You Tube.

I've known about this young lady for a while now. I always thought that she ws trying very hard to imitate Aaliyah. I guess now that she's getting to play her, it'll be weird to sit back and watch.
